Delinquent Tax Returns: Don't Panick Just Yet
![]() |
This article is meant to help you get into some of the most secret aspects. Being interested in this topic will is a must.
Sometimes things happen in your life that just can’t be prevented. Consequently certain situations may result in failing to turn in your income tax returns. But don’t panic, it’s not as bad as you think, resolving the problem can be relatively simple.
Once you’ve missed filing, it’s real easy to avoid filing again. The main reason is everyone is afraid of what the consequences might be for not filing the fist time. Just the mention of the word IRS can send chills down your spine. This is a huge misconception, the IRS does provide workable conditions for anyone who is delinquent or owes back taxes.
The way the IRS feels about it is they would much rather have you back in the scheme of things than making your life miserable. It also cost the IRS more in help trying to collect a little money, so they decided it was time to try an alternative route. This obviously makes your life and theirs, a bit easier.
The best thing to do is jump in with both feet and start filing. Filing late is better than not filing at all. Collect all the information you can for the years you did not file and prepare your returns. You can always request W-2 forms and income statements from the IRS if you need to. With this information you should be able to prepare your tax forms from previous years that you did not file.
If you should chose not to file, the IRS will sooner or later catch up with you. Taking matters into their own hands, the IRS will make and file a replacement tax return, using the information that your employers, or anyone reported to them on you. The IRS will than just assume you are single with no dependents, using this information as the basis in which to file your form. After they evaluate the taxes, they will begin following your assets through liens, garnishments, and levies. This means they can attach your wages, freeze your bank account, other horrific things. Your can bring your life to a complete halt.
In other words, don’t put off what you should have done yesterday. To be on the safe side, you might want to consult a tax expert before you file your return. The tax laws change yearly and you want to make sure you have all the proper information entered in to avoid any further problems. Being late on your tax returns is bad enough.
